What is the AFC Fiber Exchange?
The AFC Fiber Exchange is a seasonal community exchange where participants are paired together to send and receive yarn, fiber, and other goodies.
Think pen pals, but for fiber folk.
Who can join?
Anyone with a love for fiber crafts is welcome — spinners, knitters, crocheters, felters, weavers, and curious makers alike.
Is there a fee?
Yes. We charge $7 per sign up to help cover background costs. This includes the time needed to pair partners and replacing packages that were lost or never sent.
How often does the exchange happen?
Currently, the exchange runs twice a year with seasonal signup periods and shipping windows.
How are partners matched?
Participants complete a questionnaire during signup that helps guide matching based on preferences, fiber interests, crafting style, and shipping region whenever possible.
What kinds of items can I include?
You’re welcome to send:
- Yarn
- Fiber
- Batts or roving
- Handmade extras
- Notes or postcards
- Small thoughtful goodies like teas, seeds, etc
Please don't send partial or used skeins/fiber unless your partner specifically requests it.
Is there a spending limit?
Each exchange round will include a suggested package value so expectations remain fair and accessible for everyone. This round is limited to about $60.
Do I need to make something handmade?
Nope! Handmade items are welcome, but never required.
Can international participants join?
Unfortunately due to ongoing international shipping issues, participants are limited to the US and Canada. I'm hoping this will change in the near future!
What if I can no longer participate after signing up?
Life happens. If something comes up, please reach out as soon as possible so we can work through the best solution together.
Will my address be shared?
No! You will be responsible for sharing your address with your partner.
Where can I share my package reveal?
Participants are encouraged to share reveals and photos in the AFC community spaces on Instagram and Facebook. Use the tag #afcfiberexchange
Is this a subscription?
No — each exchange round is a separate seasonal event. Participate whenever you’d like!
